DESCRIPTION:
Aniseed is an herb. Some of the countries of origin for the essential oil are Spain, Egypt, Central and South America and India. The seeds are steam distilled to create an essential oil that is slightly yellow in color.

Aniseed is a popular essential oil with soap makers because of its strong, fresh scent. In aromatherapy it is usually blended with something else to aid upper respiratory conditions, is good for indigestion and may help to relieve flatulence. Aniseed essential oil was considered one of the main medicinal plants in Greece, China, Egypt, India and Rome. Pythagoras thought it to be an excellent appetizer! Aniseed essential oil may be good to use for nervous dyspepsia, or those who suffer from digestive migraines. Consult an aromatherapist for more information.

Aniseed essential oil can contain up to 90% trans-anethol, which, when taken in high doses or if taken for a long period of time, can cause a narcotic effect, slowing circulation, which can cause damage to the brain. Its effects are cumulative and may also cause dermatitis in some individuals. For those with sensitive systems it would be best to use another essential oil with similar properties (for example Fennel essential oil) to ensure safety.

It blends well with bay, cardamom, caraway, cedar wood, coriander, dill, fennel sweet, mandarin, petitgrain, and rosewood.
